Dhruv lived in a tall apartment building in Indore, and he was always up to something funny or mischievous. All of his friends and neighbors knew him as a playful prankster. Sometimes, he would hide behind doors to jump out and surprise people. Other times, he would sneak up on his friends and shout, “Boo!” to scare them.
One day, Dhruv and his best friend Navya were waiting for the lift to arrive. As they stood there, Dhruv got a prank idea. “Let’s press all the buttons in the lift and run away before anyone catches us!” he said.
Navya looked at him with a confused expression. “Why would you want to do that? It sounds like trouble,” she said.
Dhruv just laughed. “But it will be so funny! The lift will stop at every floor, and everyone inside will be so confused!” he said, as he started giggling.
Before Navya could say anything else, Dhruv pressed all the buttons in the lift and he just ran off, laughing loudly as he did.
The next day, Dhruv thought about how funny the prank was, so he decided to do it again. And then he did it again the day after that.
Every time Dhruv got into the lift, he would press all the buttons and run off, just to see people get annoyed when the lift stopped at every floor. Sometimes, he would even shout, “oh No!!! The lift is stuck!” People would hurry over but then find out that it was a joke.
Dhruv’s mother was not happy about his pranks. “Dhruv, this is not funny. What if there is a real problem one day and no one listens to you?” she said to him.
But Dhruv just smiled and said, “It’s only for fun, maa! I’m not hurting anyone.”
One evening, Dhruv and Navya stepped into the lift to go home. But as soon as the lift started moving, it made a loud THUD and stopped. The lights started flickering and the fans stopped spinning. The lift was not moving anymore!
Dhruv’s heart started beating faster. Navya’s voice was shaky as she asked, “What happened, Dhruv?”
“I don’t know!” Dhruv replied nervously.
He started shouting, “Help! The lift is stuck!” But no one came to help. The security guard, who had seen Dhruv play his pranks before said, “It’s probably that Dhruv again. He’s always playing tricks.” So, he didn’t even check.
Dhruv started to feel very worried. “No, it’s not a joke this time! Please help!” he shouted, but the lift remained still.
After some time, the maintenance man finally came and fixed the lift. As soon as it was working again, Dhruv and Navya got out of there.
Dhruv ran straight to his mother and hugged her. “Maa, I was really scared! What if no one had come to help us?” he asked. His mother looked at him. “Now do you understand why I was worried about your pranks? If you keep playing these tricks, no one will believe you when you really need help, Dhruv.”
Dhruv shook his head and said softly, “I’m really sorry, maa. I didn’t mean to cause any problems.”
From that day, Dhruv promised that he would never do pranks like that again. He learned that sometimes, jokes can cause real problems. He also learned that it is always better to be honest and helpful, especially about urgent situations.

The “What’s Wrong?” Game
Activity:
In this fun and creative game, you get to draw your very own lift! Once you’ve created your lift picture, you and your parent will take turns acting out wrong lift behaviors. The challenge is to spot the mistakes and explain how to use the lift safely. Then, swap your roles and see who can come up with the silliest or most creative mistakes!
Why It’s Fun:
You get to become both an artist and a detective. It’s a fun way to learn how to be safe in lifts while using your imagination.
What You Need:
Paper and markers/crayons to draw your lift
Your imagination
How It Works:
Step 1: Draw the Lift
Get a piece of paper and draw your own lift. Make sure to include details like the buttons, doors, and people in the lift. The more creative, the better.
Step 2: Act Out Wrong Lift Behaviors
Your parent will act out things people shouldn’t do in the lift. You need to spot what’s wrong and explain the correct way to use the lift. Here are some examples:
Jumping in the lift: “No jumping! It could cause the lift to stop.”
Blocking the doors: “Move back so the doors can close.”
Pressing too many buttons: “Only press the button for the floor you need.”
Rushing into the lift before others get out: “Let people exit first.”
Leaning on the doors: “Stay clear of the doors.”
Step 3: Swap Roles!
Now, you get to act out the wrong behaviors in front of your drawing, and your parent will try to spot them. You can make the mistakes funny or creative—it’s your turn to be the teacher!
Bonus Challenge: Combine both good and bad behaviors in your actions, and have your parent only point out the wrong ones.
Variation: Make it a points game! Earn 1 point for each mistake you find and correct.
