Two best friends, Shivi and Reyansh, lived in the same apartment in a neighborhood in Indore. They were always together as they went to the same school and played together every evening.
Shivi loved planning everything. She would finish her homework quickly and always kept her room neat. Reyansh was different. He loved playing cricket more than anything and would always delay his homework because of that.
One Saturday morning, their teacher made an exciting announcement during the online school assembly. “Next Saturday, we are organizing a Craft Fair! You can make anything you like, and the best craft will win prizes!”
Shivi got very excited. “This sounds amazing! I can’t wait to start!” she thought.
Reyansh smiled and responded, “Oh, but we have so much time. I’ll think about it later.”
Shivi didn’t waste a second. The next day, after breakfast, she opened her craft box that had colored papers, glue, beads, and ribbons. She decided to make a mini city with tiny buildings, cars, roads and trees. Every day after school, Shivi worked on her little project. By Friday, her city looked amazing!
But Reyansh was busy playing cricket and watching cartoons. “I’ll start tomorrow,” he kept saying. But every day, he found something more fun to do, and his “tomorrow” never actually came.
As Reyansh was getting ready for bed on Friday night, he realized he had done nothing about the Craft Fair. “Oh no!” he said. He started looking around his room but had no plan or materials ready.
He found an old cardboard box, a roll of tape, and crayons. “I’ll wake up early and make something quick,” he told himself. But he was actually feeling a little worried.
The next morning, Shivi carefully carried her mini city to the fair. It had bright, colorful buildings, little roads, and even tiny street lamps. Everyone who saw it said, “Wow! This looks amazing!”
Reyansh walked in with his cardboard house. It was simple, a little messy, and parts of it were actually falling. He looked at Shivi’s city and felt nervous.
When the judges came, they loved Shivi’s city. “This is so creative! You worked very hard,” they said.
Then they turned to Reyansh’s house. One of the judges asked, “Uh… So what is this supposed to be?”
Reyansh felt his face turn red because of embarrassment. “It’s… uh… a house,” he said quietly.
At the end of the fair, Shivi won first prize! Everyone clapped for her. Reyansh clearly did not win anything.
That evening, he went to Shivi’s house. “Your city was awesome,” he said. “I wish I had not wasted so much time. I kept thinking I had plenty of time but did not.”
Shivi smiled. “It’s okay, Reyansh. Next time, start a little earlier, and you will do great!”
From that day on, Reyansh decided to never wait again until the last minute. And the next time there was a contest, he would be ready— just like Shivi!
